Artwork & Practice

My Black queer identity has informed much of the way I work with materials. Using what is available to me like discarded wood, acrylic paints, paper, and cardboard, I use these items to verbalize things that cannot be said. In a world where Black, queer, fat, and disabled bodies are not valued, I am informed by Afrofuturist philosophy, which is not only a cultural aesthetic but philosophy of history and informed by African Diasporic epistemologies. Water and place are critical to my work and I am constantly using these themes to think about a world beyond the one that we live. It is important that we visualize a world where freedom and liberation exist. My goal for my art is to propel conversations and help inspire others that liberation and freedom are attainable. I'm working on a new project in conjunction with my art.
